C'est seulement en 1741 qu'il entre en fiction avec Shamela, parodie du tr\u00E8s populaire Pam\u00E9la ou la Vertu r\u00E9compens\u00E9e (1740-1741) de Richardson, puis avec Joseph Andrews. Le sommet de son \u0153uvre est sans doute atteint avec l\u2019Histoire de Tom Jones, enfant trouv\u00E9. L'ironie est souveraine chez Fielding, en harmonie avec l'\u00E9poque, l'\u00E2ge d'or du genre. Ce style bien particulier, parfois appel\u00E9 \u00AB oblique \u00BB, vise autant l'auteur que son narrateur, ses lecteurs et ses personnages.
