Officiellement appelés Commissaires exerçant la fonction de Lord Grand Amiral du Royaume-Uni de Grande-Bretagne et d'Irlande du Nord (Commissioners for Exercising the Office of Lord High Admiral of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland), ils prennent fonction lorsque le poste de Lord Grand Amiral est occupé par une commission (non pas tenu par une seule personne). En dehors de ces périodes, lorsqu'un individu était nommé Lord Grand Amiral (Lord High Admiral), le Conseil du Lord Grand Amiral (Council of the Lord High Admiral) remplissait les fonctions du Board of Admiralty, les Lords de l'Amirauté devenant alors les assistants du Lord Grand Amiral.
