Cette école est connue également sous le nom de Faxiang — qui s'inspire elle-même du cittamātra / Yogâcâra indien. L'école Weishizong fut fondée dans la seconde moitié du VIIe siècle par Kuiji (窺基), disciple de Xuanzang. Ce dernier rapporta d’Inde une charrette entière de livres sur la conscience pure (japonais, yuishiki) et s’appuya en particulier sur La Trentaine (sk. Trimshika, ch. 唯识三十颂 / 唯識三十頌, wéishí sānshí sòng) de Vasubandhu commentée par Dharmapāla. (fr)
