En 597, il accueille dans son royaume la mission grégorienne envoyée par le pape Grégoire Ier pour évangéliser la Grande-Bretagne. Il reçoit le baptême à une date inconnue et commence à promouvoir le christianisme dans le Kent. Il pourvoit l'Église en terres à Cantorbéry, où est fondée la future abbaye Saint-Augustin. (fr)
